Advising Information

Printable Version of this Page

All students majoring in the School of CIS must be advised each semester. Advising dates for this semester are shown on the CIS Events page. IMPORTANT: If you do not get advised during the designated advising period you will NOT be able to register for classes during the normal registration period. As a result, you may not be able to get into all the classes you had planned which may affect your long-term schedule.

  1. Before getting advised for the first time you need to declare yourself as being an Information Systems (ISC), Computer Science (CSC), or Information Technology (ITE) student. This formal declaration should be made as soon as a student has completed CIS 101 (the New Student Seminar "essence" course) and CIS 110 (the Introdution to Computer and Information Sciences course). You may get a major declaration form in the School of CIS office in FCW 20.

  2. Prepare before your meeting with your advisor by:
    1. studying the requirements for graduation based on your Undergraduate and Graduate Bulletin
    2. drafting a long range plan of courses through to graduation to discuss with your advisor. Use this blank Long Range Planning Sheet and the Current Course Rotation in PDF format to create your Long Range Plan.

Once this degree evaluation has been generated, each student should review the text associated with areas NOT MET and in the Excess Courses areas to understand which courses are required within the area. Furthermore, prerequisites for required courses should be checked to insure that courses are planned to be taken in the correct order.
