Born in Hamilton, New York, October 4, 1903, John Vincent Atanasoff has been credited with the title of inventor of the first electronic computer in 1942. Atanasoff and Berry took until 1942 to complete the Atanasoff -Berry Computer known as the ABC. Due to the incompetency in the patent office, John W. Mauchly and J. Presper Eckert received credit for building the ENIAC which was haled as the first electronic computer. It was later proven in 1973 court battle between Honeywell and Sperry Rand that while spending five days at Atanastoff's lab, Mauchly observed the ABC and read its 35 page manual. Later it was proven that Mauchly had used this information to construct the ENIAC. Therefore, John Vincent Atanasoff is heralded as the inventor of the first electronic computer.
