Three School of CIS Faculty Members Tagged for Promotion

The School of Computer and Information Sciences is pleased to announce the following three faculty member promotions. Effective August 15, 2009 Jeff Landry will be promoted to Professor of Information Systems and Michael Black and Angela Clark to Senior Instructor.

 

Dr. Jeff Instructor

Jeff Landry joined the School of CIS faculty in 1999 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2005. He has taught 16 different undergraduate and graduate courses over ten years at South Alabama, including information systems strategy, project management, and human-computer interaction.  He was the 2005 Teacher of the Year in the School of CIS.  He is currently a Co-PI on the federally-funded Voting Systems Risk Assessment project.  He serves as a Center for Computing Education Research (CCER) Contributor, is an ABET IDEAL Scholar, and is the information systems assessment and self-study leader for the information systems program at South Alabama.  He has co-organized two national workshops on information systems curriculum and assessment for the CCER, and has published at various IS education journals and conferences, and in the Communications of the ACM. He is the faculty sponsor of the Alpha Iota Mu honor society recognizing academic excellence in IS/IT.  His current research interests include Information systems education and assessment; ethical and legal issues in IS, and the management of information security.

 

Ms. Angela Clark

Angela Clark began teaching as an Instructor for the School of Information Sciences in Fall 2001.  She earned both her undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of South Alabama.  Prior to joining the University, she was a Systems Project Analyst and a Sr. Technical Support Analyst/Manager for the wireless division of BellSouth.  Preceding her employment at BellSouth, she was an Application Specialist for the University of South Alabama College of Medicine.  She has taught both Information Technology and Information Systems courses as well as Advanced Computer Applications courses for the School of Computer and Information Sciences and created the first fully online course for the department.  Her research interests include distance education, instructional design, and learning styles and she has published research in several of these areas.

 

Mr. Michael Black

Michael Black began teaching as an adjunct Instructor for the School of Computer and Information Sciences in Spring 2001 and as was promoted to a full time instructor in the Spring 2002. He earned his Bachelor degree in Information Technology and his Masters degree in Information Science from the University of South Alabama.  Before joining the University of South Alabama, he served as a network security/design engineer consultant with several manufactures including Uncles Ben’s Rice, M & M Mars, Pedigree, Oreck and DuPont. He has also served as a Digital Forensics Expert Witness in several Federal and State cases. He has worked with previous faculty in the development of the current Network Security Focus Track and has recently developed the Digital Forensics Track which starts Fall 2010. His main research interests are in the areas of digital forensics and network security.


We congratulate these faculty members on attaining the continuing excellence demanded for promotion to the epitome in their fields and we look forward to their continued leadership in the School of CIS.
